If it reports a problem, you still need to review the issue, and come up with a solution on your own.its a free utility after all. Luckily, they were just minor errors, but being proactive is what this utiltiy is to be used for. The first time i ran it, it mmediately told me about 3 problems i didn't know i had, because i hadn't checked on those replication groups in months. If you have mulitple hubs, specify all of the hubs in a single text file. As long as you give it the the central hub in a DFS-R replication topology, it will discover all partners from I also wrote it so it will discover new replication groups/servers automatically, so there is not much to configure. I can check that report daily and take action to get more information if something is abnormal, otherwise

So i decided to write a quick utility that can monitor all of our 50+ DFS-R servers/100s of replication groups and create a single report. If you have 100s of these, that's 100s of reports to generate and review. Their Health Reporting tool that can be ran from the command line and GUI, but it will only report on one replication group at a time. If you have a large DFS-R implementation to support, you know trying to find a free utility that can quickly generate a single health report on many servers at once is nearly impossible. Here is a DFS-R Health Check utility i wrote, so i though i would post a quick note about it. How can we go about getting this to work with Work Folders, so that users can have a work folders folder on their laptops that is encrypted, that contains the data stored in their folder redirection share? I need the existing permissions to remain in effect, ie \\server\folderredirectionshare\username allows Is it possible to create Work Folders to sync with the users existing folder redirection shares? I have not been able to find a way to get this to work. I would like to implement Work Folders, because it allows encryption of the folders. We need a way to allow users to access their documents in a secure way while offline. A while back all laptops were encrypted, but the management and trouble tickets were far too high, so everyone was moved to Users do not have any data stored locally on their laptops because it is a security risk in case their device was lost or stolen.

We were looking in to OneDrive, but the problem with onedrive is that it syncs all data to the localĬ volume on each session host, which we cannot have because storage usage would skyrocket.

The problem is users need a way to access their documents when working offline with no connection to the internet, where they normally access RDS via RDWeb. This works well, and helps us from having duplicate data on 3 different servers. Sync, so when a user accesses their documents, it is accessed directly from the file server.

Also, if we were to have data stored locally, each RDS server would need about 1TB of storage to hold all of the users data, instead of the small 100GB C volume which we are using. When a user gets directed toĪny of the 3 session hosts, they have their documents. We are utilizing Folder Redirection for obvious reasons to use the feature in a RDS environment. Our file server is also running Server 2012 R2. Or just use Classic Shell. We have a terminal server farm with 3 RDS Session hosts running Server 2012 R2. Then it's a long and complicated process which ticks me off.Īlso, if you already have an Explorer window open you can just click on "file" then "open new window" to get another Explorer window open. It seems Win 8 automatically asigns DRM to those files you DL using Win 8. The only times I have had to take ownership of files is when I try to run music files from an extenal HDD which I ported over from ANOTHER Win 8 machine. I click on "continue" and it does what I want it to do. When you get this message do you get an option to "continue?" I have a question for you because this has happened to me also.

Why does this happen and how do I resolve this?Īlso, without the Start Button, how do I open a second Windows Explorer window? "You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file" I would like to copy a file from one folder to another but I am getting the following message: I am the system administrator and I am logged into an administrator account.
